Originally know as Lanzhou Song and Dance Troupe, Lanzhou Song and Dance Theatre was established at 1970 in Lanzhou ,a major town along the Silk Road as well as the capital of Gansu province.
Lanzhou Song and Dance Theatre is a large scale professional performance group .During the 30 years of its establishment, it has presented more than 10 large scale drama, dance poems and group dances,20 evening gala shows,30 symphonic concerts, as well as various dance shows and thematic concerts. Through its successful performance in China ,Russia, Japan, Italy, Namibia Botswana, Iraq, Lebanon, etc, Lanzhou Song and Dance Theatre has become very popular among the people all over the world.
Insisting on the principle of exploring the rich culture of China′s western area, and persuing the best, Lanzhou Song and Dance Theatre has presented a lot of excellent musical works over the years.
Among them, the large scale dance drama〝The Orchid Flower〞has won the performing arts grand prize in a national-level contest; the large scale evening gala show 〝The Blessing of the Yellow River〞was granted with the Dunhuang Literature and Art prize. Another dance drama 〝Passing the west of Yangguan〞was not only presented at the 4th China Art Festival ,but also awarded with Wenhua prize by China′s Culture Ministry.
Lanzhou Song and Dance Theatre is formed by dance groups, symphony orchestras, creative workshops, stage decoration workshops, Jincheng Theatre and a training centre. Out of the total 298 employees,34 have been granted with the title of deputy professor,96 have recognized as intermediate professional job title.
The current director of Lanzhou Song and Dance theatre is Mr.Xiaolin Su, a state first class actor , well-known singer and the outstanding youth of Gansu. Other major actors include Qing Tian, Yizhong Chen, Yizong Chen, Naijuan Song, Weiyuan Liu, Huiwen Lu, Zhongji Liu and Wenqian, who are well beloved by the audience.
The chief guest conductor is Mr.Xu, professor of China′s central Musical College. The other guest conductors are Zushan Bian, Xincao Li, Dadong Liu. Playwrights include Yingzheng Liu, Changzheng Wan, Jiaju Lu, Xiaomei Du. Furthermore, Heping Liu, the permanent conductor, Jianguo Li, the choreographer, Yongheng Huo, the lighting designer, and Yanyan Ren, the makeup designer all enjoy very good reputation in China. "Dunhuang My Dueanland ",a large scale dance drama, has took two years for Lanzhou Song and Dance Theatre to creat and produce .At the 100 years ceremony of the founding of the Buddhist Texts in Dunhuang, the dance drama was finally successfully presented in By the April of 2005,the dance drama has been presented more than 210 times in 27 cities of China,includingBeijing,Shanghai, Xi′an,Guangzhou,Hongkong,Nanjing,and Lanzhou,etc.And so far,"Dunhuang My Dreanland"has been awarded with all kinds of state prizes in China, and enjoyed a very good reputation at home and overseas.
